ABOUT THE SITE: Welcome, Updates, Notices
Hello, and Welcome! If you were a student, or teacher, at HH Davis School or Woodrow Wilson High School in East Camden, NJ during the 1960’s and 1970’s, you have stumbled upon an archival site of photos and posts, from a previously interactive site for former residents of the Camden neighborhoods that surrounded those two schools. Consider this site a time capsule of those memories.
My name is Ken Brown, I attended both schools… Davis from 1963 until 1972 (Kindergarten through 8th Grade) and Woodrow Wilson from 1972 until graduation in 1976.
***Note About Class Pictures… when you click on a page to the right for a class picture (or any other picture on the site), when the picture comes up, click on the picture to view the entire class picture maximized. There are class photos for many of the Davis classes of the 60’s and 70’s, as well as some from the 40’s and 50’s.
The “Blogroll” on the menu to the right has links to other sites that are of interest to folks with a Camden connection. Phil Cohen’s site has an overwhelming amount of historical information on Camden, and he is constantly adding new photos and data.
IMPORTANT NOTE – The “Archival Vault” pages listed on the menu to the right, contain all previous comments that were posted on this site’s “Open Discussion” page during the time this site was still an interactive social media forum. Please check them out, as there is a lot of “good stuff” there. Also, posted messages have been left on most of the other pages, so be sure to check them out too.
This front page is now only used for updates and important notices concerning the site’s activities.
Many individuals who previously posted at this site, are now members of FaceBook. Many people who originally reconnected here, and posted messages over the few years that this site existed have moved to FaceBook. I encourage all who do not yet have a FaceBook page to consider making one for two reasons… you can reconnect more directly with others there – and you will find more people to reconnect with… and an additional consideration – you will have total control over your page. FaceBook also has chat, and you can create your own photo albums… or if you are so inspired, create a group. There are a number of FaceBook groups that relate to people who grew up in Camden, or have some connection to Camden, as well as groups for various schools and neighborhoods. Please search for those groups.
OCTOBER 2010 UPDATE: IMPORTANT NOTICE: Please be advised that there are no pages on this site that are open for leaving comments and posts. This site will now be a “read/view only” site.
I have had to make this change because this site has grown beyond the capacity to easily update posts and comments, so the application to leave comments and contact info has been removed. For several years this site was about the only place on the Internet where people who grew up in East Camden in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s could connect without having to pay a fee at sites such as Classmates. When FaceBook became popular two years ago, I knew it meant the end of this site as it was originally intended. FaceBook does better, what we use to do here… connect old friends and neighbors, and it does so in a way that allows each individual to control his or her own social media and networking page. There is no limit to the number of people one can search for and connect with on FaceBook, far more than was ever possible here. This site served a purpose for several years till something better came along, though it is now obsolete with its many limitations. I want to thank all who have visited this site and left comments during its run. The site stands as a testament to reminiscing with old friends who shared a time and place in their personal life journeys. Many old friendships have been rekindled due to this site, but the reality is, many more are reconnecting now on FaceBook.
I am listed under “Ken Brown” on FaceBook- feel free to contact me there, and I will be happy to direct you to the Camden groups on that site and to other “Camden people” who are members there. My FaceBook profile is listed on the Blog Roll for this site, on the menu to the right. Also, although this site is no longer interactive, if you have photos for any Davis School classes prior to 1980, fell free to contact me if you would like to add those pictures to this site… other pictures of East Camden interest from the era – 1950’s through the 1970’s, may also be considered for inclusion, however, I will not be able to post all photos submitted, so email me first with an inquiry, if you would like to have a picture considered for uploading to this site. I will no longer consider personal photos or family photos, those are more appropriate for individual FaceBook pages.
Thank you, Peace… Ken Brown
