  1. Not technically in East Camden, but many of our parents remembered when Costa’s was in North Camden. Growing up, Costa’s was on Westfield Avenue just beyond the Browning Road intersection. My mom and grandmother (who lived at 44th and High) bought lunchmeats here, as they knew the owners from when they lived in North Camden years before. The butcher knew just how my grandmother liked her chicken roll and “square” cheese sliced. Costa’s Deli always smelled great when you walked in the door. My parents went there also, having grown up in North Camden. Good old time service, everyone knew your parents when you walked in! Yeah, look at those prices, bring them back! The private owned stores were great.

Costas is still on Westfield ave. Its a small food market now,not just a deli.

I go there now & then.

Great cold cuts at reasonable prices.

I seem to remember that before they moved to Westfield Ave.,they had a store (same name) in Pennsauken at Camden or Merchantville Ave.

I’ve lived in Pennsauken for 35years now.

I crave the smell of a good Italian Deli like Costa’s. Great subs there too. Nothing like it here in Texas.

    Debbie Hans ,
Back in the late 1950’s I knew a kid named Joe Costa…blonde hair,I think…lived on or near 26th st. off of Westfield Ave.

I believe he was related to a guy named Jack Catlin.

  7. Debbie Hans Says:

yep, they are both families of his. Jack Catlin was his uncle, Joe was an uncle by MaRRiage. Bills mom was Anna May Catlin.
