Hey Nick! Were you here? What locker did Paul and Ken stuff you in? lol
How much money did the owner (Ted Rendfry) Have to donate to the Skate-A-Thon for me to perform this stunt? If you were there you should know!

  2. I was definitely there. I don’t know if I was working or not, but I know I was there. STUFF ME IN A LOCKER? LOL! Not at all. $ for you to do that stunt? Heck if I know. You just did it for the chicks, who are you kidding!! LOL. do you know what year this picture was taken?

  3. Dave Baker Says:

Nick, Yeah for the chick’s! No doubt! Take a close look at the photo!
They were going crazy! I was trying to injure myself, That’s when that whole Maternal, Nuturing thing kicks in, The old sympathy routine! lol
Seriously everybody was like Zombies after twelve hours of skating,
Not to mention, how many times can you play the Dice Game before your head explodes! lol Actually the real reason was to see Ted have to give up a Hundred Bucks! I’m sure that put a dent in his wallet! lol
I’m pretty sure the photo was taken in ‘77 or ‘78 at the latest, It was before I made my fashion “Faux Pas” the now dreaded PERM! It went well with my stylish Denim Jumpsuit! lol

  4. Ken Brown Says:

No… no way, say it isn’t so! You mean to tell me that during those years when I was wearing flannel shirts and hiking boots and roughing it in Alaska, YOU GUYS were still in Camden getting perms and wearing disco jumpsuits? Geez, it makes me glad I was somewhat culturally isolated in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Where’s Russ McDaniel??? He’ll shake his buzzed cut head in confusion at this Disco/Roller fad that captured you all too!

  5. Dave Baker Says:

JUMP, BOUNCE, ROLL BABY! lol What was your take on that Nick?
STUMBLE, FLOP, WRITHE IN PAIN! lol That’s right Ken! I even had small battery operated lights on my skates for couples skates when the lights were dimmed. We were living in the moment, While you were in the frozen Tundra of Alaska trying to figure out how to keep from catching
“Sniff-A-Liss” from kissing an Eskimo Maiden we were indulging in hedonistic pleasures! lol Are you tring to tell me Roller/Disco is dead?
Walk softly Man! Your stepping on my dreams! lol

  6. Ken Brown Says:

Actually I was already married when I headed to Alaska in the late 70’s! And while there was no disco up there, that battery operated light gizmo would have come in handy on our snowshoes during those long Alaskan winters.

Hey Dave do you still skate? I still do… we go to Young’s Skating Ring near Lake Lenape in Mays Landing. Great place, family owned since WWII I think.

And yes Disco died, Ted Nugent killed it and then hung it on his wall with his other big game trophies… LOL

  7. Dave Baker Says:

I still skate at a local rink Fountain Bleu, I know some of the locals here from skating competiton at Cherry Hill funny how small the world is (Six degrees of seperation) running into people here that traveled to our area.
Sometimes they do the retro Disco thing and I’m amazed at how the kids today never saw or heard of skating six-pack or shuffling. So it was old Ted, White and Blue that killed Disco? I thought it was that Kiss albumn
when they tried their hand at it that put that baby to rest! lol I guess I must have created my own Rink-Rats as my boys skate their wheels off,
They do things on the floor I would never do, Backflips etc… They must’ve gotten that craziness from their Mother, Cause I sure wouldn’t do anything unconventional! lol

    Hey Skeeter,
Since you are a little older than the rest of these guys, maybe you remember a roller skating rink on Kaighn Ave or Haddon Ave in Camden? In 1951-52 we used to catch the bus on Baird Blvd and ride cross town in that direction. The bus would stay on Baird Blvd and we would get off on corner of a busy street.
The rink was a short distance from the bus stop.

Edna Miles (WWHS-57) and I skated there frequently…. I just cannot remember the name or exact location of rink. Help!

  9. Inez (Reams) Janess Says:

I had to “enter” my name for “last” post….. I forgot to enter my maiden name (Reams)…… just for the record.

  10. Charles "Skeeter" Moy Says:

Yes…I remember it well, but not sure I remember the name. Was it Skateland?
I used to go there once in awhile with my friends..Bruce Marks,Joe McCool,John Porter,Jesse Wilbourne & Dave Nicholson.
    I wasn’t much of a skater,but it was fun.
    Lots of girls…LOL

  11. Peggy Marks DeBoard Says:

    Skeeter,

I can’t believe you were good friends with my cousin Bruce Marks! You mentioned him and his brother Wayne in an earlier message. I didn’t know he or Wayne very well as we lived near Uncle Walt’s second family which lived on the corner of 35th & Rowe Sts. Apparently, Bruce had a child whom I’ve never met.

I think I told you Wayne lives in Tampa , FL

  12. Inez Reams Janess Says:

    Hey Skeeter,

Do you remember the name of the street? All I remember is that the street crossed Baird Blvd.

As you suggest,SKATELAND may have been the name.

  13. Charles "Skeeter" Moy Says:

    Inez,

Perhaps we are talking about two different places. Skateland was in S. Camden,I guess it was.
Got this link from Phil Cohens site.

    Check it out.

  14. Charles "Skeeter" Moy Says:

    Peggy Marks DeBoard,
Bruce & I and the others I mentioned were best friends & practically inseperable from 1957 when we met, unti 1961 . I was in the Army from 1961- 1964 & when I got out everyone else was either married or had moved away.
So we all just drifted apart. I had not seen any of them since 1968.

Too many memories for the board,I will send you an email tonight or tomorrow & tell you about them.

    Skeeter
Ps…yes Bruce has a Son & Daughter,I haven’t seen them since I got married in 68…they say he is the spittin image of Bruce.

  15. Inez Reams Janess Says:

    Hey Skeeter,
    Thank You!
Mt Ephriam Ave is the street that crossed Baird Blvd !
So “Skateland on Mt Ephriam” it was!

  16. Inez Reams Janess Says:

    Hey Guys,
Looking at map of Camden, Baird Blvd forks westward and becomes Kaighn Ave which then crosses Mt Ephraim Ave.

If Edna Miles WWHS class of 57 were contacted, she might remember.
Where ever I skated…. she was there.

  17. terry downs Says:

Inez yes that was skateland on Mt Ephraim. They also had dances there in the 60’s.
