Camden Catholic HS

A number of East Camden kids attended Camden Catholic HS – after Davis School or St. Joe’s… and though they were high school rivals (we never could beat them in wrestling) they were still East Camden kids… and in many cases family.  Share your Camden Catholic memories here – whether you went there, or just have a memory of Camden Catholic.

Welcome to the site Alex. I’m sure a few other CCHS students will find us. Did you know Johanna Fanelle? She posts here often. MY sister Laurie Brown graduated in ‘80, she posts a lot too, so check back often. Laurie was a band geek at CCHS. Did you live in East Camden?

  3. Alex, my name is Johanna Shirk (Fanelle) I went to CCHS from 72-76 I also had Sister Paulette for art. How is she doing. I know she has retired. My younger sister went there she graduated in 79 or 80 I can remember which. Some of the people in my class were Pat O’Brien, Jimmy Cappolla, Anna Gianni, Rose McInnerny (not sure of spelling) Anne Monaco she is who I hung with a lot in high school just to name a few. I really was not very involved at CCHS, I only was there because my mother wanted a child to graduate from there I got to be the lucky one. My heart was really at WWHS were my best friend Barbara Maslanik went to school as well as my boy friend.

  4. Laurie Freeman (Brown) Says:

Johanna and Alex, it’s nice to see some other CCHS alumni on the site. I graduated in 1980. By the time I would have went to Wilson alot of the younger siblings of WWHS graduates were going to CCHS or CC Vo-Tech after graduating 8th grade at Davis. Not many of the students who went K-8th with me at Davis continued on to Wilson.
I never took Art in CCHS since I was in band, but I do remember Sister Paulette.
Some of the East Camden families that went to CCHS were the Cunningham’s from 38th, the Casey’s from 36th street, the Diamonds that lived down by the 38th street park, the Renz’s from 38th street, and siblings such as Carol Comstedt (40th), Joyce Staple (38th or 39th) Joann Hoffman(38th), Eileen Edwards (32nd) there were many other kids from the neighborhood that attended during the years that I was there, these were just some that I was friends with.

  5. Hey Johanna, I remember that boyfriend of yours. He was very, very, smart and extremely good looking wasn’t he? If I remember correctly he was very kind to animals and helped ladies across the street alot. A girl would be mighty fortunate to have a guy like that!!!

  6. Paul Skeens Says:

Okay, okay, It was worth a shot!

  7. John Doe, He just wanted to get the ladies pocketbooks, but good looking is correct not too smart after all he let the best one go. LOL
Okay I tried to take a shot also. LOL

    Paul, You are crazy.

  8. Alex Benzuk Says:

    Hi, Johanna!
What is going on with you?

  9. Johanna (Fanelle) Shirk Says:

Alex, Not much I have 3 kids 20,18 and 16. Married for 22 years. lived in Naples, Fl for 8 years. My children were all born in Florida. graduated in 76 went to work for a year till i decided what I wanted to be when I grow up and I am still trying to decide. I hung with some people from your class. Lisa Monaco is one person I still hear from now and then. Boy am I losing my mind I am trying to think of some of the people from that class and I cant come up with any names except Lisa’s. I read earlier that you still keep in touch with Sister Paulette where is she now and what is she doing? I am sure she is retired. I worked with two people from your class Paula DeAntonio, and Ron Villa they are married and have moved with the company to the Virginia area. So what about you. what is going with you? where are you living, working and all of the good stuff?

Well hello to everyone else. Ken how are you doing?

  10. Debbie Clark Says:

Johanna, I transferred from WWHS inthe middle of 9th grade to CCHS, you were in 10th. I became friends with Theresa Hambleton, she lived down the street from you. We all rode the same bus. I have lived in Brandon Fl for 20 yrs.

  11. Johanna (Fanelle) Shirk Says:

Debbie did you live on westfield ave across from St. Joseph’s? I miss Florida especially in the winter months. My kids tell me all the time they want to go back, but I think at their ages if I tried to take them back they would want to kill me. Brandon is in the center of the state or am I wrong?

  12. Debbie Clark Says:

Johanna, I lived on N 26th. I went to Wilson in 9th grade, then transferred to CCHS in the spring and moved to Salem Co after 10th grade. Theresa and I were friends for several years after I moved. Theresa lived closer to Westfield and you lived across the street closer to Federal, I think it was 28th street. I’ll have to get the old year books out, I don’t remember any other names from the bus. Do you remember Theresa?
Brandon is in the middle of the state, between Tampa and Plant City. Where are you living now? I recognize a lot of names from this site

  13. Johanna (Fanelle) Shirk Says:

Debbie, I do remember Theresa do you hear from her anymore? I live back in NJ again. I had moved to Naples, Fl for about 8 years my kids were born there, should have stayed there but there was no money. We were ahead of our time. I am in Audubon between Oaklyn and Mt. Epharim in case you forgot where it is. Well I am at work so I have to go for now talk to you soon

  14. peggy Marks DeBoard Says:

Does anyone remember Donald and Suzanne McNellis? They lived on Fairfax Drive between 34th & 36th Streets. They would have graduated sometime bewteen 1955 and 1960. Their father had a driving school in Camden and used only Studebakers!

They also attended St. Joe’s for elem. sch.

  15. Johanna (Fanelle) Shirk Says:

I remember the name McNellis but I have to get my brain working to remember if Donald and Suzanne were the names that I think I remember. I think the McNellis family I am thinking of lived on 28th Street.

  16. Debbie (Farina) Irizarry Says:

My sister, Patricia graduated in ‘66 and my brother Tom and younger sister Michelle also went to CCHS. My cousin, Margaret Dymond graduated in ‘67 as well and married Kevins Harkins, another classmate.
