ABOUT THE SITE: Welcome, Updates, Notices

Hello, and Welcome! If you were a student, or teacher, at HH Davis School or Woodrow Wilson High School in East Camden, NJ during the 1960’s and 1970’s, you have found an Internet home where you can reconnect with people you knew in childhood. If you stumble upon this site, please pass along its where-abouts to anyone you know who once lived in East Camden, and attended Davis or Wilson.

My name is Ken Brown, I attended both schools… Davis from 1963 until 1972 (Kindergarten through 8th Grade) and Woodrow Wilson from 1972 until graduation in 1976. My hope is that people will find this site and that it will grow as a place for old friends to reconnect, reminisce, and leave posts and comments,  without having to pay a fee as you do at most reunion and alumni sites.

I can be emailed at Leppaluoto@aol.com

***Note About Class Pictures… when you click on a page to the right for a class picture (or any other picture on the site), when the picture comes up, click on the picture to view the entire class picture maximized.  If anyone has pictures of other classes, the schools, events, or pictures of East Camden,  forward them via e-mail, and I will post them also.

The “Blogroll” on the menu to the right has links to other sites that are of interest to folks with a Camden connection. I especially recommend Phil Cohen’s excellent site, it is loaded with historical information on Camden, and he is constantly adding new photos and information. The Rutger’s link no longer has the “Stories of the Neighborhood” feature, sadly Rutger’s did not manage the site well and it was ruined by spammers; many great memories were lost.

IMPORTANT NOTE - The “Archival Vault” pages listed on the menu to the right contain all previous comments that have been left on the site’s opening page since we began. Please check them out, as there is a lot of “good stuff” there. Also, messages have been left on most of the other pages, so be sure to check them out too.

There are now class photos for many of the Davis classes of the 60′s and 70′s, as well as some from the 40′s and 50′s.  Remember to click on the photo when it comes up to  see if it can be maximize, as some photos can be enlarged, others cannot.

This front page will now just be used for updates and important notices concerning the site’s activities.

Many individuals who have previously posted at this site, are also members of FaceBook. Many people who originally reconnected here, and posted messages over the first few years of this site, no longer do, as they have moved on to FaceBook, where they continue to reconnect with others and have more individual control over their personal page. I encourage all who do not yet have a FaceBook page to check it out for two reasons… you can reconnect more directly with others there  – and you will find more people to reconnect with; and you will have total control over your page, unlike on this  site which has  obvious limitations and has become obsolete. FaceBookalso has chat, and you can create your own photo albums.

* Update 5-18-2011I no longer administer the annex I created for this site on FaceBook, though it is still open for posting comments. While I enjoyed exchanging memories with many of the members of the group, many who originally posted here, the tone and spirit of the group has changed in recent weeks, and a small minority of current posters have created a negative atmosphere I cannot codone. I urge all those who find this WordPress site, and wish to continue to reconnect and share memories with former friends from Camden, to join the FaceBook group – “Former Camden, NJ People” – that was created by Steve Bellitz about two years ago. You will find over 2100 former Camdenites at Steve’s group, and a friendly group of individuals who actively participate in discussions and posting comments. Following is the link to Steve’s site:

There are also a number of other FaceBook groups that relate to people who grew up in Camden, or have some connection to Camden. Please search those groups out.

OCTOBER 2010 UPDATE:  IMPORTANT NOTICE: Please be advised that there are now no pages on this site that are open for leaving comments and posts. This site will  now be a  ”read only” site.

I have had to make this change because this site has grown beyond the capacity to easily update posts and comments, so the ability to leave comments and contact info has now been removed. For several years this site was about the only place on the Internet where people who grew up  in East Camden in the 50′s, 60′s and 70′s could connect without having to pay a fee at sites such as Classmates. When FaceBook became popular two years ago, I knew it meant the end of this site as it was originally intended. FaceBook does better, what we use to do… connect old friends and neighbors, and it does so in a way that allows each individual to control his or her own web page. There is no limit to the number of people one can search for and connect with on FaceBook, far more than is possible here. This site served a purpose, till something better came along, making this site with its many limitations, obsolete. I want to thank all who have visited this site and have left comments over the past few years. The site stands as a testament to reminiscing with old friends who shared a time and place in their personal life journeys. Many old friendships have been rekindled due to this site, but the reality is, many more are reconnecting now on FaceBook.

Also I would again encourage anyone who visits this site to please check out FaceBook as it is a much better social networking site to search for individuals and connect directly with people you are seeking to reconnect with.  If you are new to FaceBook, feel free to contact me there, I am listed under “Ken Brown” – fell free to friend me, and I will be happy to connect you with the Camden groups on FaceBook and other Camden people. My FaceBook profile is listed on the Blog Roll for this site, on the menu to the right.

Thank you, Peace… Ken Brown
