ABOUT THE SITE: Welcome, Updates, Notices

Hello, and Welcome! If you were a student, or teacher, at HH Davis School or Woodrow Wilson High School in East Camden, NJ during the 1960’s and 1970’s, you have found an Internet home where you can leave comments and posts, and reconnect with people you knew in childhood. If you stumble upon this site, please pass along its where-abouts to anyone you know who once lived in East Camden, and attended Davis or Wilson.

My name is Ken Brown, I attended both schools… Davis from 1963 until 1972 (Kindergarten through 8th Grade) and Woodrow Wilson from 1972 until graduation in 1976. My hope is that people will find this site and that it will grow as a place for old friends to reconnect, reminisce, and leave posts and comments,  without having to pay a fee as you do at most reunion and alumni sites.

I can be emailed at Leppaluoto@aol.com, or you can leave a message or comment here at the site. At the very least, let us know you have stopped by.

***Note About Class Pictures… when you click on a page to the right for a class picture (or any other picture on the site), when the picture comes up, click on the picture to view the entire class picture maximized.  If anyone has pictures of other classes, the schools, events, or pictures of East Camden,  forward them via e-mail, and I will post them also.

***There is a page where you may leave your email address if you wish, so that others may contact you. If you want others to be able to view your email address,  you must not only enter it on the “email” line, but again in the larger reply box. E-mail addresses left only in the “e-mail” line, cannot be viewed.  There is also a page where you can tell others where you reside today.  Please do not leave home addresses or phone numbers.

*** Just a reminder, if you post comments on this site, they can be viewed by anyone searching the web. So keep your comments civil and benign. WordPress (the host site) monitors for inappropriate language and topics. If you should post something you later regret, just let me know and I will delete the post at your request.

The “Blogroll” on the menu to the right has links to other sites that are of interest to folks with a Camden connection. I especially recommend Phil Cohen’s excellent site, it is loaded with historical information on Camden, and he is constantly adding new photos and information. The Rutger’s link no longer has the “Stories of the Neighborhood” feature, sadly Rutger’s did not manage the site well and it was ruined by spammers; many great memories were lost.

IMPORTANT NOTE - The “Archival Vault” pages listed on the menu to the right contain all previous comments that have been left on the site’s opening page since we began. Please check them out, as there is a lot of “good stuff” there. Also, messages are left on most of the other pages, so be sure to check them out too.

There is a list of all recent comments to the site, and the pages they can be found on. I will update this list at least daily, and it can be found on the page menu to the right…. at the bottom… “ZZZZ…List of Recent Comments.”

There are now class photos for many of the Davis classes of the 60’s and 70’s, as well as some from the 40’s and 50’s.  Remember to click on the photo when it comes up to  see if it can be maximize, as some photos can be enlarged, others cannot.

February 16th, 2009 was the one year anniversary of this site… we are currently (March 1, 2009) nearing 65,000 HITS on this site, with about 2,500 comments posted, many reconnections made, and 150 pages – most with pictures and memories shared. Thanks to all who have visited this site and have left comments. Keep spreading the word.

June 26 – 09: I have  moved the most recent 150 posts to a new archives page – Archival Vault: Until June 26-09. I am opening a new page beginning tonight for GENERAL DISCUSSIONS & COMMENTS, where we will now post all comments that in the past have shown up on the site’s opening page. This will eliminate the need to move posts to an archive due to this page getting too full.

The new page for general comments is titled: GENERAL DISCUSSIONS-COMMENTS-GENERAL DISCUSSIONS-COMMENTS-GENERAL DISCUSSIONS… it is now on the menu, in large type, about half way down the list, which is in alphabetical order, so look for it there.

This front page will now just be used for updates and important notices concerning the site’s activities, and for welcoming new visitors as they arrive.

Because this site is listed on Internet search engines, and can be read by anyone who stumbles upon it, including children and the relatives of individuals who may no longer be with us,   please keep the comments positive and benign, and  refrain from using derogatory statements and words.

There are several new pages of with photos, check those out, they can be found listed on the Recent Comments page, and also on the General Discussions page.

Many individuals who have posted at this site, are also members of FaceBook. Many people who originally reconnected here, and posted messages over the first year of this site, no longer do, as they have moved on to FaceBook, where they continue to reconnect with others and have more individual control over their personal page. I encourage all who do not yet have a FaceBook page to check it out for two reasons… you can reconnect more directly with others there  – and you will find more people to reconnect with; and you will have total control over your page, unlike on this  site which has  obvious limitations. It also has chat, and you can create your own photo albums.
